Having spent a greater part of my professional life filming abroad - in recent years the monks of Angkor Wat in Cambodia; the plight of the Asian elephant in Thailand; and the story of Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunis, aka ‘Banker to the Poor’, in Bangladesh - it was still an unexpected surprise and an honour to be asked to produce a series of short films for CCN about the rain forests of the Philippines. I had been to the Philippines before, some twenty years ago on the peaceful island of Boracay shooting for a travel company, but to be asked to film on the island of Mindanao, the largest, most southernly and allegedly most ‘dangerous’ island in the Philippines was something quite different altogether...
